1st Month of College!!

1st Month Of College

Hello!! My name is Callum and this is my first Blog!!
I'm extremely excited to start my first blog and reminisce about the amazing times we have had during the first month at college!! I believe from this point on, submitting a blog twice a week would be an efficient way to organise my time and will allow me to put my all into what i'm writing. Leaving behind the stress of outside influences.

My first blog will be starting from the 5th of September and ending on today's date, the 5th of October!

5th of September - 7th of September

On Monday, during the first week of college and the induction to the course we all met up in the dance studio. When walking in I could tell everyone was in some way nervous as they weren't sticking close to anyone specific and looked a little spaced out. It is amazing to me how close we have all gotten in such a small amount of time, however, during this time we were all, including me, nervous to meet the classmates we would be spending the next two years of college life with!
In order to combat this, we performed an exercise in which we all would stand in two lines and stand opposite to each other. The task we were assigned was to sit and explore the opposite person to you's interests. We were each given a piece of paper with questions written on them in case you could not come up with any, after a minute, we would move to the next person! I loved this task and I believe it was an incredible idea, the ice was broken almost immediately and common interests were found in seconds, i truly do believe this task was the foundation of everyone being so comfortable with each other now and has helped immensely!
We also were shown our induction videos, they weren't too interesting to me for obvious reasons, but i understand the need for them and payed attention nonetheless. After this we had an acting challenge! 4 of us had to tell the truth while one of us had to lie about a story, it was then the challenge of everyone else to guess who the liar was, i was the liar in my group and i luckily managed to fool everyone! I enjoyed this activity, it was a great way to see where everyone's benchmark is.

Tuesday of induction week consisted of more team building and ice breaking activities! We played a bunch of games with Kane and it helped us immensely, laughing with each other and working together. I quickly tried my best to keep my confidence up and act like I have known these people my full life, I've learned it helps when both parties aren't nervous to come closer to one another! It was the first day where we played wink murder mafia boss, which allowed us to show our acting, improv and miming skills by coming up with a creative way to wink murder each other!

On Wednesday, we met all of the year twos! Being Morgan’s brother, he told me about a lot of them and I’d already met a few! They all seemed really nice and it was confirmed on Wednesday when the rest of the group was introduced! Luckily it didn’t take long for us all to get along and be friends with each other, we did a few more games to all get to know each other and making some more friends to spend this course with was amazing!
12th of September - 15th of September
During Monday of the first official week of college we had a huge brainstorm! We were told about our performance for the Globe and each of  us listed our fears to help us decide what we could do for the globe! We were then each split off into teams to give a performance! We were given a piece of paper with a prompt which me and Morgan made into a whole story! The prompt had described opening a door to a dark room, which we added something sinister lurking at the end of a corridor and so the story progressed!

Tuesday was the day we were taught by Kane! We were shown multiple clips from different movies, with the goal in mind to spot what kind of emotions were being shown. Each clip was at first muted to see if we could spot what they were experiencing by facial expression alone! It was interesting to be abler to see professional actors show emotion by the smallest detail. I sincerely hope to be able to do the same at some point. We also showed Kane our prompt stories and he gave critique! I wasn't too happy with how it turned out and hope i can do better in the future!

Wednesday we were in the theatre and given the task to split into groups! We would each pick a family member and act as such, we would perform three different sketches where one of us would play the Prosecutor, the Victim and the Saviour, we each played all three one at a time and saw how the family would play out. It was really fun to be a granddad for a day!

On Thursday we were given small scripts which consisted of a small premise! The script we were given was a patient going for a routine blood test, however the one who performed it was quite inexperienced and therefor the patient was scared. Our piece was called The Needle. While i thought our script wasn't much to work with, me and Sophia tried our best to make the characters our own, as well as give each other tips on how we could develop the character! Overall i loved the script learning process and it got me prepared for learning scripts in the future!
 20th of September - 22nd of September

Tuesday we worked more on the small scripts we were given! It was fun acting the scene out for the rest of the class, as well as showing for the first time in front of everyone our levels! Seeing everyone act out their scene was incredible, even though i was very nervous i tried my best to hide it and performed the scene as best i could. I believe my scene was enjoyable to watch, even though i may have forgotten a line

Wednesday we were given a first look at a project we would be working on for the next couple weeks!! Our Lonely Hearts columns!
We were given a peice of paper with a small line of text describing a character who was looking for a date! The line was taken from a website that actual people had used and we were to make our own custom character! I loved the idea of making an entire character out of nothing  and decided to make my character Irish! His name was Graham and he was 40 but due to his Irish heratage I made his name be spelt Grahm. I fell in love with him straight away and loved playing the character! After we had solidified the character we sat in a circle and told each other something about ourselves!

On Thursday we were introduced to our first official acting task! We were given an assignment to pick a scene from any movie or TV show and perform a copycat of said scene! Immediately ideas were going through my head about one of my favourite movies Legend, featuring tom hardy. However, after finding a team names like Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter were discussed and seemed to be favoured by most of the team. After thinking a bit more about the scene I wanted to do, i realised with such a big group it would be impossible to give everyone a proper part! The team ended up deciding on the Harry Potter Winguardium Leviosa scene.
I wasn't too happy with the decision as i would've liked something more involving and moving around, however, Marvel had been discussed before and so after bringing it back up to the group and showing that it would give everyone a proper part and some lines we all decided it would be the better choice!
