Character Analysis - Charles Lewis | TGLT

Charles Lewis is the first official character that I have had to portray in my time at college, as well as my time on earth in general! Due to my zero background in theatre this was a challenge i have never had before! It was an incredible opportunity to get to portray him and here is my analysis of the character!

The first look i got of Charles Lewis was a black and white picture that was showed to us when we were researching who actually used to own the Globe Theatre. After seeing how he looked and attaching him to the culture that bestowed that of the 1910s i imagined he had a few mannerisms immediately, such as moving his hands around a lot and being very physical while talking. After learning he used to own a sweet shop my mannerisms started to make more sense and I imagined him to be very hyper.

Then I was introduced to him in the script and who I thought he would have been fit perfectly with how he was written in the script! Rehearsing I made sure to take inspiration from Johnny Depp's depiction of Captain Jack Sparrow with my hyper attitude and eccentric nature, but restricted myself to a certain degree so that it wouldn't look ridiculous.

Using my inspirations I believe I made a character that fit the script and the history perfectly! It was incredibly fun to portray Charles Lewis and I cant wait to continue my journey!
