My Backstage Role - The Wizard of Oz
Working backstage in our college play was an exciting and challenging experience that required great attention to detail, hard work, and creativity. I had the opportunity to work backstage during our production of "The Wizard of Oz," and it was an unforgettable experience that taught me many valuable lessons. Our primary time helping backstage was spent setting up the props between each performance, after every show ended I made sure to stay behind and help replace all the props to where they were supposed to be. This included setting up the various scenes, moving scenery on and off stage.
One of the main challenges I faced while working backstage was keeping up with the pace of the performance. During the show, the actors would move quickly from scene to scene, and we had to be ready to make quick changes to the scenery and props. Another challenge was dealing with unexpected issues, such as a piece of scenery breaking or an actor forgetting a prop. In these situations, we had to be creative and resourceful to find a solution quickly. Working backstage helped me develop several important skills. One of the most important was teamwork, as we had to work closely with each other to ensure that everything ran smoothly. Additionally, I learned how to be organized and manage my time effectively, as we had to be ready to make quick changes during the performance. Finally, I developed my problem-solving skills, as I had to find creative solutions to unexpected issues that arose during the show.
One of these issues being forgetting to take the metal bucket with me when moving around the stage as the historian, in this scenario I luckily remembered there was a regular drum on the side of the stage I was on, and so, sounding similar I used that when Dorothy knocked on the tin mans chest. Overall, working backstage in our production of "The Wizard of Oz" was an incredible experience that taught me many valuable lessons. I learned the importance of teamwork, organization, and problem-solving, and I had the opportunity to be part of an unforgettable performance.
