Audition - Jack The Ripper | TGLT2
The second Globe Tour! Today is our day for the audition and i have chosen to go for the role of Jack the Ripper! It is a case that interested me very much given the mysterious and unsolvable nature of it and has always kept itself present in my brain. Because of this i have extensive knowledge on the Jack the Ripper cases as well as the theories surrounding the them and the culprit.
At first, this role was chosen to have no lines which appealed to me, as i have not performed a fully physical role before. I saw this as a challenge and went for it, hoping i could scare the heck out of people without saying a word. However, given the progression of the play, Jack the Ripper ended up becoming Rippers, given the suspect count and "It could've been anyone" state of the case, this made perfect sense and would let the audience make the decision on which person really was the famed killer.
Given this type of role that i gave never played before, i would love the challenge to truly convince the audience that i was THE ripper, and so get them to vote for me. I am exciter to perform, and the fact im performing my own monologue just increases my excitement tenfold! I have spent time and effort in researching my character and creating a Ripper Letter, i took huge inspiration from the real letters that were sent to scotland yard in the 1800s
The letter i have written is below:
Old Bobby,
My work is going well and my knife lay so sharp. I hear youve found five so far.. how sad.
I see the coppers on the corner of dorset street, I stand by and laugh to myself as I see my scene become that of crime. Gathering your trinkets to catch me, but ho. Dont count on it.
Dont get bored too quickly, ive already completed another shift, my work lay somewhere in Whitechapel. Dont go gagging thinking ill tell you where though.
Running out of red ink, next time ill use the proper red stuff, and use it quick before it turns thick like glue.
Yours sincerely,
Jack the Ripper
