Audition - Smee | PP
Preparing for smee was certainly a new type of experience and definitely a challenge. I have never before played a role that had such a fine line of idiocy to comedy. Too far one or the other way and it wouldnt be funny. I had to work at the mannerisms, voice and posture.
I have chosen to play older characters in a more obvious way consistently when i have had or made said role. However, with smee i thought a bad posture combined with a spryness would work in my favour to add to the comedic affect. I practiced which voice i was going to do and added a specific walk that was more of a waddle to show the nonchalant nature of the character.
Once in the audtion i was nervous as always but i believe my experience in auditioning has definitely helped my confidence when performing my character for the first time. I walked in normally, and told the reasons i wanted to audition for smee! Of course as i said id never delved into a comedic character before and was yet another hurdle in my path that i was determined to jump! Not only this, i was excited to play someone who wasnt all there mentally but used his lack of intelligence to his advantage.
I hope that i gave a good enough audition to get the role! I know that if i did i would do everything in my power to make it amazing, and would make it an honour to know i could successfully play such a character!
